TERRY, DAN (Daniel Kostraba), leader, trumpet, arranger; b. Kingston, Pa., 12/22/24. Father a choirmaster. Stud. trumpet privately; played w. Muggsy Spanier’s big band Feb. to May ’43, then entered Marines. Discharged Sept. ’44; took over leadership of Hollywood Teenagers Band ’45 in Los Angeles. To NYC 1948; eight months w. Sonny Dunham, then stud. theory at Coll. of Pacific ’48-9. Has led own big bands on and off since summer of 1950; recorded with all-star personnel for Columbia. Appeared in film short Birth Of A Band. Active mainly as music copyist in late ’50s, occasionally gigging w. band and pl. w. Buddy Rich and others. LPs: Teen Age Dance Party (Harm.).
