Glen Island Casino Back in Band Swing

NEW YORK: The big band business, hyped by the commercial success on the road of the Woody Herman ork in the West, gets a local push when Dan Terry and orchestra open at the Glen Island Casino here Friday, July 19.

This big band has something of a new sound with a four soprano sax section in addition to the usual reed and brass accompaniment. Terry is currently negotiating for a weekly location remote from the club over the Mutual network, and WPIX-TV. Also planned are special events, one of which is a Hootenanny. Then Glen Island, of course, was a key East Coast location during the big band era with outfits like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Glen Gray appearing regularly.
